Removing Blackheads on the Face

Overview

Blackheads are a type of skin acne that is caused by the pores becoming clogged and impacted with excess sebum, dead skin, oils and bacteria. These impurities stretch open the pores, allowing oxygen to oxidize the sebum and oils, effectively turning them brown. From a distance, these brown spots appear black. Blackheads can cause the complexion to look more sallow and dull than normal, but can be eliminated by following a routine that drains out the pores, removes excess sebum, dead skin and oils, and tightens the pores.

Step 1

Drain out the pores by applying an oil facial steam. Spread 2 Tbsp. of castor oil onto your face. Castor oil is a highly purgative oil that can be used to flush out impurities from the skin. It binds to the sebum and oils in the pores, allowing them to be drained out more easily once steam is applied to open the pores.

Fill a bowl with boiling water. Drape a towel over your head, and lean 18 inches over the bowl, letting the steam billow over your face. Steam your skin for at least 10 minutes, then wipe off the oil with a washcloth. Apply an oil facial steam once per day.

Step 2

Remove dead skin and excess oils by applying an exfoliating facial scrub. Combine 1/4 cup of ground, raw oats and 2 Tbsp. of baking soda in a small bowl. Drizzle 3 Tbsp. of water onto the mixture and spread it onto your skin. Using a gentle touch, massage the mixture into your skin for three to four minutes, then rinse it off thoroughly with water. Apply an exfoliating scrub once per day after the oil facial steam.

Step 3

Apply an egg white mask. Egg whites are very high in protein, which can help tighten and tone the skin, preventing any impurities from becoming lodged inside the pores again. Whip two egg whites in a small bowl using a whisk until soft peaks form. Spread the whipped egg whites onto your skin, and allow it to dry completely. Rinse off using warm water. Apply mask once per day after exfoliation.
