Honey has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that help kill bacteria that cause acne. Home remedies using honey to treat breakouts can provide acne sufferers with relief and blemish-free skin.

Honey

Dab a small amount of honey directly on acne with a cotton swab or finger. Wait five minutes and then rinse with warm water. Honey can be applied to acne on any part of the body, it also helps remove acne scars. Apply honey as often as needed. Use honey for at least one week for best results.

Honey and Cinnamon

Combine 3 tbsp. honey with 1 tsp. cinnamon powder. Mix together until a paste forms, then apply directly to acne before bed. In the morning, wash off honey paste with warm water. Continue for two weeks for noticeable results.

Honey and Oatmeal

Boil 1 cup of water on the stove. Add 1/2 cup of oatmeal and stir. Cover with lid for five minutes. Add 1/4 cup of honey and combine. Allow oatmeal mixture to cool completely. Apply mixture to face, avoid the eye area as oatmeal can irritate the eyes. Leave the mask on for 10 to 20 minutes. Rinse the face with warm water and soap to remove. Oatmeal reduce inflammation, absorbs oil and exfoliates the skin. Apply mask once a day for at least one week for results.

Honey and Lemon Juice

Mix 1 tsp. lemon juice with two drops of honey. Use a cotton ball and lightly dab a small amount on acne. Allow the mixture to work overnight and wash face with warm water in the morning. For a mask, mix a spoonful of honey with 1 tsp lemon juice. Rinse the face with warm water after 20 minutes. Lemon juice can dry out the skin while honey works as a natural moisturizer, allowing the two to work together as an acne treatment. For best results use real lemons, bottled lemon juice is diluted. Individuals with sensitive skin may experience burning or irritation. Discontinue using lemon juice if irritation occurs. Use lemon juice and honey daily, but avoid if over drying occurs.
