Remedies for Acne Spots Remedies for Acne Spots

Acne breakouts can occur on the skin due to the pores becoming clogged with oils, sebum, bacteria and dirt. When the pores become clogged, puss begins to form, resulting in swelling and bumps. In order to effectively remove these acne spots, it is important to know which acne remedies eliminate acne spots the quickest.

Baking Soda Cleanser

Baking soda is a substance typically used to clean counter tops or to help cookies rise, but is also helpful in removing dead skin cells, cleaning the skin and killing off acne-causing bacteria. Baking soda can be used as an effective cleanser by combining 2 Tbsp of baking soda with 2 tsp of water, and massaging it into moistened skin for about three minutes. Use a gentle touch and avoid aggressive scrubbing. Rinse the baking soda mixture off with warm water, and reapply it up to two times per day.

Tea Tree Oil Toner

Tea tree oil is naturally antimicrobial and antibacterial, making it helpful in killing off bacteria and microbes that cause acne to form. According to the Department of Dermatology, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, tea tree oil can be used as an effective alternative to benzoyl peroxide cream, which is usually irritating to the skin. Tea tree oil is extracted and bottled in its pure form, and should be diluted before you apply it to the skin. To dilute tea tree oil, combine 8 oz of water with five or six drops of tea tree oil. You can apply the diluted oil up to three times per day.

Calamine Lotion Spot Treatment

Calamine lotion is traditionally used to help relieve the itching of a poison ivy rash, to reduce the pain of a bee sting, or to dry up the blisters of a chicken pox virus. It can also be helpful in clearing up acne breakouts. This mineral-based lotion will not only help dry up acne pustules, but can also reduce the redness and irritation. To apply calamine lotion to acne breakouts, cover the tip of a cotton swab with calamine lotion, dab it onto the individual acne blemishes, and leave it on the skin for up to an hour before washing it off. Calamine can be used on the skin up to three times per day.
