Remedies for Acne Red Spots Remedies for Acne Red Spots

Dealing with acne red spots can be a real drag. After all, it was enough work getting rid of the acne, but facing the red spots left behind can be almost too much to bear. Thankfully, numerous home remedies can work well to fade your red spots, and you need look no further than your kitchen cabinet.

Lemon Juice

Lemon juice contains citric acid, which works similarly to salicylic acid, a common ingredient in nonprescription acne medications. It works by drying out excess oils and encouraging dead skin cells to slough away quicker. Citric acid can also kill bacteria, preventing new acne from forming. Apply lemon juice to your skin each morning and evening. Allow it to set for 10 minutes before rinsing well with warm water. Over the course of several weeks, the lemon juice should have a bleaching effect on your acne red spots and help fade them quicker.

Toothpaste

Perhaps one of the oldest remedies for treating red acne marks, this common household item can work wonders for many. This is because the primary ingredient, sodium fluoride, works to dry out excess oils that cause acne to form and that can create skin blemishes, as well as reducing the appearance of redness on the skin. Use only the paste form, not the gels. Likewise, rinse the toothpaste off after 30 minutes to prevent excessive drying and potential irritation.

Tea Tree Oil

Derived from a plant that is called Melaleuca alternifolia---which is found in Australia around the northeast coast of New South Wales---tea tree oil has been used to treat red acne spots for centuries. It has antiviral, antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. It is also a powerful antiseptic, and many people use this oil to clear skin blemishes quickly. Some people may be allergic to this oil, so it is advised that you test a small patch of skin before applying it to treat red acne marks.
