Recommended Acne Products
If you have acne, you're not alone. It affects approximately 85 percent of people in their teens and young adult years, according to Brown University's health services. Several acne products recommended by skincare experts can help treat your acne before it leaves your skin permanently scarred. If your acne persists after eight weeks of over-the-counter treatment, Brown University recommends consulting your dermatologist for information on the various prescription medications--both oral and topical--that can help you.
Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Stress Control Night Cleansing Pads
Neutrogena infuses its cleansing pads with salicylic acid, reports acne expert Paula Begoun. Salicylic acid works as an effective blemish fighter by exfoliating your pores to reduce the clogging that leads to pimples. The textured pads also help remove surface oil and dirt. Begoun notes that the salicylic acid stays on your skin long after you finishing wiping for effective acne control.
Mario Badescu Buffering Lotion
Sulfur kills the bacteria that create the acne skin condition, reports Brown University. The Mario Badescu company adds potent levels of it to its buffering lotion. The lotion was chosen by the editors of "Women's Health" magazine as one of the best cream solutions for getting rid of zits. The magazine's product testers said it may even help with serious acne problems, like cystic pimples. The company also adds hydrolyzed protein, niacinamide and vitamin B7 to help your skin repair itself.
Murad Clarifying Mask
Murad's mask helps to pull oil from your pores to leave your skin less greasy. According to Paula Begoun, the maks is made with sulfur as its active ingredient, at a concentrated strength of 4 percent. The combination of less oil and bacteria-killing sulfur can help clarify your complexion and leave you less prone to breakouts.
Clean & Clear Daily Pore Cleanser, Oil-Free
Regular washing helps to keep your skin clean to avoid the bacteria growths that make acne worse. This oil-free facial wash is "one of Clean & Clear's better cleansers," concluded Begoun after testing them all. Its oil-free formula won't clog your blemish-prone skin, and its water-soluble cleaners help to dissolve and lift away dirt and oil from your pores. Begoun says it can even tackle "very oily skin."
