Pimples are caused by oils that get trapped under the skin and are unable to flow out naturally through your hair follicles. This trapped oil forms a lump under the skin that appears as an irritated bump and can become red and swollen. Pimples can be unsightly and uncomfortable. Luckily, you have a few options for treating pimples to get rid of them quickly at home. You can find everything you need for your treatment of choice at the grocery store.

Aspirin Mask

According to BellaSugar.com, you can use a homemade aspirin mask to quickly get rid of pimples. Crushed aspirin applied topically to the skin acts like salicylic acid, an ingredient found in many over-the-counter acne remedies, by exfoliating the skin and removing dead skin and impurities. To make an aspirin mask to treat pimples, crush four or five uncoated, plain aspirin pills and combine them with a tablespoon or two of plain water to form a paste. Rub the aspirin paste on your skin during a breakout and leave the mixture on for five minutes before rinsing to get rid of your pimples fast.

Toothpaste

Dr. Audrey Kunin, a dermatology instructor at the University of Kansas, suggests using toothpaste topically to quickly relieve an acne outbreak. Kunin states that toothpaste helps dry oils on the face that cause pimples. Choose a toothpaste that does not contain whitening ingredients or possible skin irritants such as cinnamon. To use toothpaste to dry up a pimple, apply a small amount of toothpaste to the breakout and let it dry. Leave it on overnight, then rinse the toothpaste off in the morning.

Honey

Honey has powerful antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, and, according the the World of Honey website, can be used topically to quickly treat pimples. If you don't suffer from honey allergies, you can use unprocessed, raw honey to treat acne by applying the honey directly to your skin. Leave the honey on the affected areas for 15 minutes, then wash it off. Treating pimples with honey can be messy, but honey is safe and gentle enough to use on your skin every day.

Ice

The Acne Teen website suggests reducing the appearance of your pimples quickly by applying ice cubes to your breakouts. Just like using ice to treat an injury, applying ice to a pimple will reduce redness and swelling, making the pimple smaller and less noticeable. To quickly get rid of a pimple using ice, wrap two ice cubes in a washcloth and hold the cloth against your breakouts for five to 10 minutes. Don't apply the ice for much longer than 10 minutes or too often to reduce the risk of irritating your skin.

Tea Tree Oil

You can find tea tree oil at most grocery and health food stores. By using pure tea tree oil topically, you can get rid of unsightly pimples quickly, according to the Acne Myths, Etc. website. Tea tree oil is naturally antibacterial and can clear up acne-causing bacteria on your skin. To use tea tree oil, just apply a small amount of the oil to pimples and let it dry. There is no need to rinse off the oil.
