There are many products in stores that claim to fight and eliminate acne, so it can be difficult to decide which acne product is the most effective. A few acne treatment products are known for their effectiveness and broad usability. These products can be purchased at any drug store or supermarket, and can be used daily to treat acne breakouts.

Salicylic Acid Gel 20%

Salicylic acid works to fight acne by balancing out the rate at which the skin cells slough off. Dead skin cells can become trapped inside the pores, leading to blackheads and acne pustules. By applying a pea-sized amount of salicylic acid gel to your skin twice per day, the dead skin cells will be able to slough off more rapidly, while new skin cells will be encouraged to develop at a faster rate. This prevents the pores from becoming clogged, making it a helpful treatment method for people who experience a lot of blackheads or papules. Using a higher strength salicylic acid gel, such as 20 percent in concentration, will fight off acne breakouts quickly and will keep the pores clear.

Benzoyl Peroxide Cream 2.5%

Benzoyl peroxide fights off acne breakouts by releasing oxygen down into the pores, which works to kill off acne-causing bacteria and microbes. There are many different strengths of benzoyl peroxide cream, such as 2.5 percent, 5 percent, and 10 percent. Using the highest strength benzoyl peroxide cream, which is the 10 percent concentration, will clear up acne quickly, but can cause too much irritation to be an effective long-term treatment. Using the lowest strength benzoyl peroxide cream, which is the 2.5 percent concentration, may not be strong enough to fight off chronic or more severe forms of acne. By using a pea-sized amount of the 5 percent concentration benzoyl peroxide cream twice per day, mild, moderate and severe acne can be effectively treated and eliminated.

Tea Tree Oil 5%

Tea tree oil fights off acne breakouts by killing off bacteria and microbes that cause acne on the skin. the tea tree oil that you can purchase in stores is extracted directly from the Tea Tree plant, a native to Australia and New Zealand. The Department of Dermatology, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital suggests that tea tree oil is just as effective at fighting acne as benzoyl peroxide cream, but does not dry out the skin. To use tea tree oil on the skin, it should be diluted in a solution of 95 percent water and 5 percent pure tea tree oil. This can be done by pouring together 8 oz. of water for every 5 drops of pure tea tree oil. Diluted tea tree oil can be applied to the skin up to three times per day.
