Products that Lighten Skin Discolorations

Melanin is the chemical that gives skin its color. Some people have too much melanin in certain areas of the skin, which leads to discoloration. The National Library of Medicine says there are several potential causes for hyperpigmentation, such as medication side effects, acne scarring, exposure to the sun, and diseases. Fortunately, commercial products can help decrease discolorations of the skin. These products are referred to as tone-correcting serums, and prescriptions are not required for purchase.

Clinical Dark Spot Corrector

Clinique has a skin tone corrector called Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector. This product claims to contain a powerful botanical called CL-302, which helps correct dark spots related to hyperpigmentation. The results are supposed to be visible within four weeks, with maximum benefits at 12 weeks. This product also is touted as a gentle solution for treating skin discolorations.

Tone Correcting Concentrated Serum

Neutrogena has products targeted at treating skin discolorations in a product line called Tone Correcting Age Intensives. There are a few options for daytime or nighttime treatment. The nighttime serum treatment has a soy product that claims to even skin and smooth texture. Retinol SA and vitamin C are added to help purify the complexion. This product is directed to be used daily, with maximum results expected after 14 days of use. Neutrogena also makes a facial peel and a daytime moisturizer for treating skin discolorations.

Definity Tone Correcting Serum

Olay markets a tone-correcting line called Definity. These products are advertised as anti-aging and skin-tone-correcting treatments for daily use. Olay says discolorations are diminished, as well as hard-to-treat dark spots. The primary ingredient in Definity is glucosamin complex. Olay recommends using all of the products in this line for maximum results.
