Products for Combination & Oily Skin

People who have combination skin typically have normal or dry skin on most parts of the face but an overabundance of oil in the T-zone. The T-zone is the area that runs across the tops of the eyebrows, down the bridge of the nose and over the nose. Dermatologists at Derma Doctor report that treating combination and oily skin is a challenge, but with the right kinds of products for combination and oily skin, you can achieve healthier facial skin.

Cleansers

Formulations Facial Cleanser or Pevonia Botanical Clarigel Exfoliating Cleanser provides a base from which to start. Sensitive skin requires mild cleaning. At the same time, you need to remove the outer layer of skin to allow new skin cells to breathe. Look for products that contain soothing plant derivatives to smooth the skin. Products that contain triclosan, salicylic acids or alpha-hydroxy acids can help to cut down on oil and bacteria while gently sloughing off the dead skin cells, report dermatologists at Best Skin Care. People with combination skin must be careful not to scrub too hard, because sensitive areas can easily become inflamed, creating an even more unbalanced look. Other products recommended by Best Skin Care doctors include Pond's Clear Solutions Deep Pore Foaming Cleanser and L'Oreal Hydra Fresh Foaming Face Wash.

Toners

Combination and oily skin often show marks from pimples. Products that contain hydroquinone break up melanin and allow the skin to heal in a more even shade. Over-the-counter options contain less than 3 percent of the ingredients and usually are coupled with glycolic, kojic or salicyclic acids. Also referred to as fade gels, some good toners include Black Opal's Advance Dual Complex Fade Gel and Peter Thomas Roth Potent Skin Lightening Gel Complex.

Oil Control

A good oil control product will go on lightly. Heavy products can clog pores and create blackheads and pimples. Look for an oil control base that disappears into the skin and that can reduce the size of pores to decrease the amount of oil secreted and keep your face from getting too shiny. Consultants at Dermatologist RX recommend using products that contain salicyclic acids or clay-based masks for oil control. Dermatologists at Dermatologist RX recommend La Roche-Posay Effaclar Active Matte Emulsion and GlyMed Plus Clarifying Mask.

Moisturizer

Moisturizer with added color, such as Oil of Olay Definity Color Recapture Moisturizer, also has SFP sunscreen in it. Lightly applied to the face, moisturizers can even out the skin tones that tend to get blotchy. Look for moisturizers that do not contain oil to use under makeup such as Clinique's Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel. Other good oil-free moisturizers include Oil of Olay Daily Complete UV Protection Moisture Lotion and Neutrogena Combination Skin Moisture Facial Moisturizer.
