When trying to delay the signs of aging, many people focus solely on the face, but forget to take care of the neck. Sadly, this is the area that can really give away your age. There are treatment options for those looking to firm of the neck area that range in complexity from applying a cream to undergoing a surgery. What you choose will depend on the severity of your drooping neck skin and the kind of results you hope to achieve.

Applying a moisturizer to your neck is one of the simplest ways to smooth wrinkles and prevent excessive drooping of the skin. Look for moisturizers infused with aloe vera and soy, which can help bring back the suppleness of youth to your skin. When applying moisturizers, use an upward motion to encourage lifting of the neck skin. With a generous amount of moisturizer on your fingertips, apply it to the base of your neck and stroke upwards into your chin and face. Never pull down on your neck skin.

Firming Lotions

Firming lotions are available over-the-counter and by prescription. These lotions help to firm up your neck skin and bring it back to a more youthful appearance. In some cases, these lotions contain collagen, royal jelly and other ingredients to bring a smoother texture to your skin. This can also stimulate cell growth and the replenishment of the subcutaneous layer of skin (the layer that provides your neck with support and fullness) to eliminate the "turkey neck" look.

In more extreme cases, a facelift is necessary to bring the skin on the neck back into its rightful place. This is appropriate if the skin is drooping substantially and milder treatments and creams had no real effect. This happens for many who are older or who have lost a lot of weight rapidly. A facelift will involve trimming off the excess skin of the neck and jowls and reconstructing a tighter, more defined neck and jawline. Both the skin of the neck and face as well as muscles will be tightened according to the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Laser Resurfacing

Laser resurfacing is a procedure that helps to remove wrinkles and damage from your skin. It stimulates the deeper layers of skin to start regenerating, giving your skin a fuller appearance. While this won't get rid of very large folds on your skin, it will create a smoother texture and reduce lines and wrinkles on your neck.
