Naturist Treatments for Cystic Acne

Cystic acne, characterized by tender, raised and swollen, red pus-filled boils, is the "harshest and the most painful form of acne," according to CysticAcne.com. While consultation by a dermatologist is advised for severe cases, cystic acne may be controlled by medical treatment coupled with a regimen of naturist home remedies.

Honey

Honey tastes sweet to the tongue, but it may prove even sweeter when used as a cystic acne remedy. Honey "offers incredible antiseptic, antioxidant and cleansing properties." The website also says that honey "not only fights infection and aids tissue healing but also helps reduce inflammation and scarring."

Honey may be used to combat cystic acne in a number of ways. You can combine crushed aspirin into 1/4 cup of honey to use as a facial scrub. GrannyMed.com suggests mixing honey and oatmeal as a facial masque to inhibit inflammation. Prepare one serving of plain oatmeal as per manufacturer's instructions. Stir in 1/4 cup of honey and apply it to your face. Allow it to dry for 20 minutes before rinsing with warm water. Another tip offered by Dr. Randall Neustaedter, author and Oriental medicine practitioner, involves applying raw honey directly onto your skin to work as an antibacterial agent.

Baking Soda

Primarily known as a chemical leavening agent that causes batters to rise, baking soda also has a long history of helping to banish boils associated with acne. It not only absorbs excess oil secretions, but according to Natural-HomeRemedies.com, baking soda helps to maintain a fresh, clear complexion by acting as an exfoliant, working to slough off dead skins cells that clog pores.

Make a facial mask by mixing enough baking soda and water to form a thick paste. Apply the mask unto your face, and allow it to dry for 30 minutes. Add a small amount of warm water to your face, and massage the mask into your skin. Rinse off with five to six splashes of cold water.

Tumeric

Tumeric, a bright yellow spice, helps to remove bacteria and carcinogens from your complexion. When applied directly on boils, tumeric accelerates the healing process. The website suggests roasting tumeric roots, dissolving the ashes in one cup of water and dabbing the solution on affected areas to "aid boils to ripen and burst." Paste of tumeric, mango, lemon and water to use as a facial mask.
