As people mature, the skin naturally begins to lose some of its elasticity from a lack of collagen production in the skin making scars more apparent than before. It's the same principle that results in fine lines and wrinkles appearing on the skin from sun damage done in earlier years. Thankfully, there are natural ways to remove scars from mature skin that will help rebuild that elasticity and diminish the scars.

Aloe Vera Gel

Aloe vera is one of the leading home remedies for many skin ailments, including the removal of scars. This remedy can be used in any form, including straight from the plant. To obtain the gel inside the leaves, break off a leaf and squeeze the juice out, or you can slice one side of the piece you broke off starting at the wide end and cutting to the narrow tip. Apply to the scar tissue twice per day.

Vitamin E Oil, Capsules or Lotion

Like aloe, Vitamin E is another leading home remedy for many skin ailments, especially in the treatment of scars. This antioxidant can penetrate deep into the skin's tissues to heal from the deepest point of the scar. You can find Vitamin E in liquid form, or you can puncture a soft gel to access the liquid to apply to the scar. According to Home Remedies, you can also mix Vitamin E with aloe to boost the natural healing abilities of both remedies.

Sandalwood and Rosewater

This is a very common natural treatment for scars recommended by sites, such as Natural-HomeRemedies.com and Morpheme Remedies. Mix sandalwood paste or powder with rosewater to form a thinner paste. Apply the mixture over large areas of skin not only to treat scars, but to also reap all the benefits of this treatment. Leave the paste on overnight, and rinse with cool water in the morning to reveal fresh, smooth skin.

Honey

Apply honey to your skin after washing. Washing with soap after applying the honey can wash away the benefits the honey left behind. Not only does honey help diminish scar tissue, but it will add a natural glow to your skin. Leave on your skin for at least 10 minutes. When you rinse the honey from your skin, rinse with warm water.

Natural Mask

You can make a mask from natural ingredients to soften your scars. Mix 1 tbsp. each of sour cream, yogurt and grind oatmeal plus a few drops of lemon. For oily skin, use fat-free sour cream and yogurt. Apply the mixture over the skin and leave on for 10 minutes, then rinse.
