Acne can leave residual scars. Many who suffer moderate to severe acne have to deal with scarring afterward. Traditional methods of treatment include injections, peels, dermabrasion and laser resurfacing. While effective, they are expensive, some are painful and all require recovery time. There are many natural remedies that can help diminish the appearance of acne scars.

Use makeup to reduce the appearance of acne scars. First, find a concealer, foundation and powder that match your skin tone. Dab the concealer directly on the scar and let it dry for a couple minutes. Apply the foundation over the concealer and over your face, jawline, hairline and neck. Be sure to blend well so there is not a visible line where makeup stops. Finally, set the concealer and foundation with powder. It gives your skin a smooth, matte finish and prevents shine due to oil.

Baking Soda

Baking soda can be used as a natural exfoliant to slough away dead skin cells. Mix 1 tbsp. of baking soda with 1 tsp. of water to create a paste. Massage this mixture on your face for a couple of minutes, then rinse. This helps remove scarred skin, encourage new cell growth and increase blood circulation to your skin.

Rose Hip Oil

Rose hip is well known for its anti-aging and anti-wrinkle properties as it contains retinol and vitamin C. It promotes skin regeneration and increases collagen production, which also helps reduce the appearance of scarring. For best results, use this as a topical solution over acne scars twice a day for a couple of weeks.

Lemon Juice

Lemons are rich with vitamin C and highly acidic. These characteristics help remove dead skin cells and promote cell regeneration, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. Lemon juice can be used to reveal fresh skin and balance skin tone. Gently cleanse your skin, then spray on lemon juice and let it dry. Do this once in the morning and once in the evening.
