Natural Ways to Get Rid of Blackheads

Blackheads are actually oils with a yellowish tint that develop on the skin when pores become clogged. They are a type of acne often referred to as open comedone, because they are open, making it easy for bacteria to grow. Once bacteria forms, the blackheads can become inflamed, red and infected and become a pimple. Using natural methods, you can eliminate blackheads once and for all. Before using any natural remedies, check with your physician.

Using steam on your face can be a good first step in eliminating blackheads. Boil some water and then remove it from the heat. Stand over the pot, allowing the steam to hit your face; be careful not to put your face too close because the steam can cause burns. If you want to trap the steam so more of it hits your face, take a towel and drape it over your head and shoulders. In 10 minutes or so, the steam will cause your face to sweat and open up your pores, and you'll be ready to remove blackheads, according to Acne Helper. If you have any type of skin condition, consult your dermatologist before taking part in any type of steaming process or using any type of abrasive cleanser.

To cleanse your face of blackheads, take a small bowl and combine 1 tbsp. of warm water with 1 tsp. of baking soda. Use your fingers to rub the solution onto your face is soft, circular motions. When applying the baking soda solution, pay extra attention to the areas where the blackheads appear. Ultimate-Cosmetics says that not only will this help to remove blackheads, it will also exfoliate the skin and clean out the pores. Rinse the solution with warm water and use a towel to dry. After washing, use a cotton ball to apply a natural astringent.

The best way to have clear skin is to avoid the blackheads in the first place. Once you have removed them, prevent them from returning by making a paste out of 1 tsp. of ground cinnamon and 1 tsp. of lemon juice. Every other day, apply the paste to the areas of the skin where the blackheads would normally appear. To help keep the skin fresh and clean, stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water every day.
