Acne scars are an unpleasant reminder of past blemishes. Genetics, the severity of your acne and/or if you picked or popped the blemish can determine if you develop an acne scar, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. An acne scar signifies that damage occurred below the skin's superficial layer. The skin repairs itself with scar tissue, which tends to be redder and harder than the surrounding skin. If you experience acne scars, you can use home remedies to reduce inflammation and minimize your scar's appearance.

Wild Rose Oil

Wild rose or rosehips oil is produced by placing rose petals or rosehips -- which are rose fruits or seeds -- in a jar and adding vegetable or olive oil. This oil naturally contains vitamin C, an inflammation-fighter, according to Whole Living. The oil also moisturizes the skin, minimizing the hardness of your pimple scar. Apply this oil to skin using a cotton ball or swab. When applied twice daily for a period of several weeks, the oil can reduce fine lines and scarring.

Aloe

Natural inflammation fighters, aloe vera juice and gel have applications to fight pimple scars, according to Health 911. Purchase an aloe plant and tear off one of its tips. Open or squeeze the tip and apply the gel or juice to a cotton swab. Rub gently on any pimple scars. Apply every morning and night for a period of six months to experience acne scar reduction.

Lemons

If you experience dark pimple scars, the citric acid found in lemons can help to lighten the scar, according to Health 911. Cleanse your skin, then squeeze lemon juice onto a cotton ball. Apply to your pimple scar. Leave on for 10 minutes, then rinse away with warm water. Because the citric acid encourages cell exfoliation, this may leave your skin more vulnerable to sunburn. Apply a sunscreen with a SPF 15 or higher to protect the skin.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes contain vitamin A, which is found in a number of topical skin applications to reduce wrinkles and scarring. This red fruit also is high in antioxidants, which can fight inflammation in your pimple scar and protect the skin against further damage, according to BBC Health. Eating foods containing tomatoes, especially tomato paste that is high in antioxidants, can help improve your skin texture and repair the skin's deep tissues.
