You can get your vitamin C by taking foods supplements, sprinkling a powdered form into your beverages or by eating foods that are rich in the nutrient. All vegetables and fruits contain some amounts of the vitamin. Foods that are rich in vitamin C include citrus fruits such as tangerines, oranges, grapefruit, lemons and limes. The berry family including marionberries, strawberries, cranberries, blueberries, red raspberries, blackberries and huckleberries will provide you with high levels of nutrient. Other rich fruit sources include watermelon, cantaloupe, papaya, mango and pineapples. Juices made from all of these fruits are other rich sources.

You can eat vegetables such as broccoli, sweet and white potatoes, winter squash, red and/or green sweet peppers, tomatoes, cauliflower, cabbage and brussels sprouts to get rich amounts vitamin C. Dark leafy greens including spinach and turnip greens are excellent sources, as well.

Use Good Skin Hygiene

Using good basic skin care techniques can help cure your acne, says the Mayo Clinic. Be certain to use a gentle cleanser on your acne. Start with gentle cleansing agents on your problem area. Avoid products such as astringents, masks and facial scrubs that tend to irritate acne. Try to avoid excessive scrubbing and washing of your skin.

Be careful of what touches your face, advises the National Institutes of Health. Keep your hair clean and off your face. You should also avoid touching your face with objects (such as telephone receivers) or your hands. Wearing loose clothing and/or hats can help as they can reduce the likelihood of sweating. The Mayo Clinic says that dirt, sweat and oils can contribute to acne. Do not pick your acne as this can lead to infections and scarring.

Getting Your Zinc

Zinc is an essential mineral that plays a role in wound healing, according to the National Institutes of Health. Zinc supplements can help eliminate acne. Skin products containing zinc are also available, or you can consume foods that contain high levels of the mineral. High-protein foods such as pork, beef and lamb contain the richest amounts. Fish and the dark meat of chicken are other rich sources. Even though the light meat of chicken contains respectable amounts of zinc, it is not as much as the dark meat. Other good sources of zinc are legumes (beans), peanuts and peanut butter.
