Acne is a collection of symptoms that include pimples, blackheads and whiteheads that are a result of an inflammatory skin disorder. In addition to aesthetic concerns, excessive acne can be an emotional problem that affects self-esteem, as well. In addition, acne is not only a problem among teenagers, but also among an ever-increasing number of adults. There are numerous factors that contribute to this problem, including hormonal imbalances, stress and nutritional deficiencies. Proper cleansing and supplementation may offer relief for acne sufferers.

Acidophilus

Acne can be a result of candidiasis, or an overgrowth of yeast. When the body's eliminatory functions are overburdened, the skin can often become an outlet for ridding the body of toxins, which can lead to acne outbreaks. Supplementing with acidophilus can help to balance out the intestinal flora and rid the body of excess yeast, resulting in acne reduction.

Colloidal Silver

Colloidal silver is a natural antibiotic. When acne occurs as a result of a skin infection or excessive bacteria, silver can be applied topically, as well as taken internally, to eradicate the source of the outbreaks.

Vitamin B Complex

Stress is often the culprit behind acne. B vitamins are very effective in relieving stress-induced acne. Vitamin B3 can also improve blood flow to the skin, which helps circulate out wastes and toxins.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is an immune system booster, and a healthy immune system can fight acne-induced inflammation. Skin tissue repair is also benefited by vitamin C, since it is essential in the synthesis of collagen.

Essential Oils

Many essential oils can aid in acne prevention and reduction. Lavender, geranium and clary sage are all beneficial regardless of skin type, since they balance the production of skin oil, or sebum. Tea tree oil is also notable because it has been proven to be as effective as benzoyl peroxide in the treatment of acne. Lavender and tea tree oil can also reduce scarring from acne. Both can be applied directly to blemishes for spot treatments.

Essential Fatty Acids

Essential fatty acids (EFAs), especially Omega-3s, are necessary for the body to maintain smooth, soft skin. They are also beneficial for tissue repair and healing. Additionally, EFAs help the body to break down fatty deposits that may result in blocked pores.
