Excess oil production is one of the leading causes of acne. When excess oil is produced, it mixes with dead skin cells and other microscopic debris. This clogs pores by creating a sticky plug, and a pimple forms when this becomes infected and inflamed. For some people with acne, reducing or eliminating excess oil may be the only treatment they need. These natural remedies effectively reduce excess oil, making them ideal for people with acne-prone and oily skin.

Oatmeal

Oatmeal is not only a healthy breakfast, it also is very effective at soaking up excess oil from the skin. The dry and coarse texture of oatmeal allows it to soak up oil on the skin like a sponge and unclog pores. To use this remedy, mix oatmeal and warm water to create a thick paste. Let it cool to a point where it is able to be tolerated on the skin. Spread the paste over the skin and let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes or until dry. Rinse with lukewarm water and pat the face dry.

Egg Whites

Egg whites effectively soak up excess oil while tightening and firming the skin. They also provide protein to the skin and act as an astringent by unclogging pores. To use this remedy, crack an egg and separate the egg white from the yolk. Apply the egg white directly to the face and let it dry for about 10 minutes. The skin should feel tight when the mask is dry. According to Lynda Fassa of Discovery's Planet Green, it is best to rinse with lukewarm water and then allow the skin to air dry. This prevents any disturbance to the skin's acid mantle, which protects the skin and helps prevent future breakouts.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar absorbs excess oil from the skin while balancing the skin's pH level. It also kills bacteria on the skin that cause acne. For mild to moderate acne, mix a solution of one part apple cider vinegar with three or four parts water. Apply this mixture to the skin and allow it to sit for about 10 minutes before rinsing. For more stubborn acne, the solution can be left on overnight. According to Home Remedies Web, a stronger solution of one part apple cider vinegar and two parts water can be used for stubborn or more severe acne. However, this solution should be rinsed after 10 minutes and not left on the skin overnight.
