Murad Clarifying Spray Ingredients Murad Clarifying Spray Ingredients

The Murad Clarifying Body Spray is designed to be an anti-acne treatment for blemishes. This handy spray can be used for "bacne" or acne on the back, instead of notoriously hard to apply creams. It will kill surface bacteria and help prevent reoccurrences of acne. Other than water and denatured alcohol, there are 16 ingredients.

Cleansing Agents

Cleansing agents work to clean the skin. Cleansers in Murad Clarifying Body Spray include undecylenoyl glycine, oleth-20 and cocamidopropyl betaine. Undecylenoyl glycine and oleth-20 are surfactants, according to Skin Deep, which allow an easier glide across the skin with a product. Cocamidopropyl betaine is also an antistatic agent that removes static electricity from a product and helps prevent it from occurring.

Solvents

Solvents are agents that are used to dissolve other compounds in a formula. The solvents in this product are butylene glycol, polysorbate 20 and pentylene glycol. Butylene glycol is a colorless liquid that is also a viscosity-lowering agent, according to Cosmetics Info. Polysorbate 20 is an agent to disperse oil in water-based compounds. Pentylene glycol is also a skin conditioner.

Antioxidants

Antioxidants are agents that help fight free radical damage to the skin, something that causes skin damage due to metabolism or by the skin's response to invading bacteria. Antioxidants in Murad Spray are tocophersolan, according to Cosmetics Info.

Hydrators

There are a few ingredients in Murad Spray that lock in moisture and hydrate the skin. These are lecithin and panthenol, a derivative of the B5 vitamin. Lecithin also helps enhance the texture of the skin, according to Derma Doctor.

Preservative

Preservatives help reduce spoilage by inhibiting the growth of mold, fungi and bacteria in a product. The preservative in this product is triclosan, according to Derma Doctor, and may be hypoallergenic.

Beta Hydroxy Acids

There are two beta hydroxy acids, or BHAs, in Murad Body Spray. BHAs reduce oiliness and acne. Salicylic acid is one of the BHAs included, while sodium salicylate, the salt form of salicylic acid, is the other. Sodium salicylate is antibacterial, but not exfoliating like salicylic acid is.

Miscellaneous

Four ingredients are left in Murad Back Spray. Allatoin helps calm the skin, according to Derma Doctor. Retinol is a vitamin A derivative. Menthol is used as a fragrance and for cooling effects. Cymbopogon schoenanthus oil, or lemongrass oil, is a fragrance that may cause some skin irritation, according to Cosmetics Cop.
