Ingredients in DML Lotion
Dermatological Moisturizing Lotion, or DML, is a thick skin-protecting product make with dimethicone as its active ingredient. It will not clog pores or irritate skin, as there is no fragrance added to the compound. It can be used on any skin, even the face. Its ingredients are also hypoallergenic and will not cause allergic reactions. In addition to purified water, DML has 13 ingredients.
Active Ingredients

Emollients
Emollients are agents that make the skin soft and supple by helping to keep in moisture. Emollients in DML are methyl glucose sesquistearate, PEG-20 methyl glucose sesquistearate, cyclomethicone, cetyl alcohol and stearic acid. Stearic acid and cetyl alcohol can also be used as thickeners, according to Cosmetics Cop. Cyclomethicone is like dimethicone but with a drier finish.
Skin Protectant
Skin protectants are agents that protect the skin from harmful substances that can cause irritation. Petrolatum is the skin protectant in DML, according to Cosmetics Info. It is a hydrocarbon, which means it contains only hydrogen and carbon.
Humectant
Humectants keep moisture in the skin. Glycerin and benzyl alcohol are the humectants in this lotion. Glycerin is labeled as "GRAS," which stands for "generally recognized as safe," by the Food and Drug Administration. Benzyl alcohol help the ingredients in a compound sink into the skin better, according to Cosmetics Cop.
Thickener
Thickening agents are those that make a compound more bulky and keep it from being too thin. The thickening agent in this lotion is xantham gum, according to Cosmetics Cop.
Film-Formers
Film-forming agents create a thin film on the skin to help a product glide easier. Sodium carbomer 941 is the film-forming agent in DML; it also functions as a stabilizing agent, according to Cosmetics Cop.
Emulsifiers
Emulsifiers are agents that reduce surface tension of the ingredients in the product that need to be emulsified. The emulsifier in this lotion is glyceryl stearate, according to Cosmetics Info.
Anticaking Agents
The anticaking agents help keep a product from flaking or caking up on the skin. Magnesium aluminum silicate is the anticaking agent in this lotion, and can be natural or synthetic, according to CosmeticsInfo.org.
