Overview

Blackheads, also known as comedones, form when oil, skin cells and sometimes bacteria create a plug inside one of your hair follicles. The plug itself is what forms the black dot in the center of a blackhead, since the pore itself remains open at the skin surface. If the pore were to be closed over the blockage, it would be called a whitehead.

While there's no scientific research showing that honey helps remove blackheads, it nevertheless remains an often-recommended folk remedy. If you're desperate to get rid of blackheads, it might just be worth your while to try.

Step 1

Spoon 1 tbsp. of honey into a heat-resistant container. Microwave in 10-second bursts until it's warm to the touch. If you don't have a microwave, you can also heat the honey in a double boiler.

Step 2

Dip a cotton ball in the warmed honey. Apply it to blackhead-prone areas.

Step 3

Leave the honey in place for 10 to 15 minutes. Wash it off and rinse your face thoroughly with cool water. Pat your face dry with a soft towel.

Step 4

Repeat the process. Use this honey treatment daily, as needed, until your blackhead problems subside.
