How to Use Baking Soda to Get Rid of Acne
Acne is caused by clogged skin pores that are filled with bacteria. According to "Braun-Falco's Dermatology," baking soda has the ability to kill bacteria due to being highly alkaline. According to "Handbook of Dermatology: A Practical Manual," it is safe to use a baking soda toner to treat acne as often you desire, though daily use is recommended. Visit a dermatologist to explore your treatment options if you do not achieve your desired results after treating your acne six weeks.
Combine 8 oz. of lemon juice and 1 tsp. of baking soda into a spray bottle. Tightly screw on the top and shake the bottle to mix the lemon juice and baking soda. According to "Braun-Falco's Dermatology," the lemon juice will dry up extra fluid in the acne, allowing the baking soda to reach and kill the bacteria.
Cleanse your acne with a mild soap. If dirt or oil is covering your acne, the baking soda toner will not be able to reach the clogged pore.
Rinse off the cleanser with warm water. According to "Cosmetic Dermatology: Principles and Practice," warm water dilates skin pores, allowing the baking soda toner to kill the bacteria clogging the pores.
Pat the acne dry. According to "Handbook of Dermatology: A Practical Manual," it is essential that you lightly pat the area dry and avoid using a scrubbing motion, which could rupture the acne and spread bacteria.
Spray the baking soda and lemon mixture on the acne. Allow the mixture to dry on the skin.
