Overview

The word "acne" is used to describe plugged whiteheads, blackheads, pimples and nodules or cysts that commonly occur on your face, back, neck and arms. Acne is a skin problem that affects millions of individuals worldwide, especially adolescents. Apple cider vinegar (ACV) is a common alternative medicine treatment for acne. This vinegar contains natural chemicals similar to glycolic acid which used in many potent acne medications, according to Loretta Ciraldo, M.D., dermatologist and author of "6 Weeks to Sensational Skin." Apple cider vinegar is simple to apply to acne affected skin.

Step 1

Prepare the apple cider vinegar (ACV) mixture. Mix 1 cup of organic apple cider vinegar with ½ cup distilled water. Use organic ACV since these contain whole apple pulp compared to the distilled ACV which contains just the peels and cores. It is believed that the organic ACV with pulp contains all the medicinal ingredients. Set aside the mixture or place in the refrigerator to cool.

Step 2

Wash your face or go take a shower if the acne is located all over your body. Use an antimicrobial soap to cleanse your skin. You can use a soft sponge to help eliminate dead skin cells and dirt but avoid using a loofah sponge. A loofah can scrape the acne, causing skin irritations and redness.

Step 3

Dip a sterile cotton ball into the ACV mixture and apply it directly to the acne. Gently massage the soaked cotton ball in a circular motion for five minutes. Let it dry and leave it on your skin overnight. Rinse it off in the morning. You will start to see results in about two weeks if you do this every day.
