How to Unblock Clogged Pores
No one likes dealing with prominent pores, especially when they're clogged with material. Clogged pores have nothing to do with having dirty skin. Rather, they are caused by a buildup of oil, dead skin cells and possibly makeup. These clogged pores can result in pimples with whiteheads or dark spots within the pore called blackheads. In any case, there are ways to unblock your clogged pores and achieve clear skin.
Cleanse your face thoroughly in the morning and in the evening, using only gentle pressure from your fingertips. Wash moving your fingers in a circular motion to remove debris from your pores. Gently pat dry your skin.
Apply gentle and light makeup products that won't clog your pores. They should clearly state that they are oil-free, non-acnegenic and non-comedogenic. Stick to powder foundations, if you can help it, as they'll make your pores look smaller.
Keep your hands away from your face at all costs. The dirt and oil from your hands will just make your clogged pores worse. Don't pick or touch your blemishes or try to extract material from your pores by squeezing them. This will push material deeper into the pore and could lead to scarring.
Apply a salicylic acid acne treatment to your clogged pores. Use a gel or cream and apply it evenly to the area to be treated twice a day. If it causes peeling, reduce application to once a day or every other day. It works by sloughing off dead skin and preventing your pores from getting clogged in the future.
Visit your dermatologist and obtain a prescription for Retin-A. A form of tretinoin, Retin-A works by removing the top layer of skin over time and stimulating collagen production underneath. This will help material in your pores be removed and improve the texture and tone of your skin over time.
