Overview

Raised scars are also referred to as keloid scars. These scars usually result from surgery or deep injuries to the skin. Keloid scars, whether under the eyelash line or elsewhere, are sometimes bright red or purplish. They may have a bumpy appearance and are more common in people with darker skin tones. Treating keloid scars can help reduce their size and discoloration.

Step 1

Apply cocoa butter or vitamin E oil to the scar. With daily use, both products help reduce scar size and minimize discoloration. Take care not to get them in your eyes. You can find cocoa butter and vitamin E oil at pharmacies and beauty supply stores.

Step 2

Opt for laser resurfacing or microdermabrasion at your dermatologist's office. These noninvasive procedures remove the injured layer of skin, exposing new skin underneath. Several treatments may be required for larger scars.

Step 3

Take a daily multivitamin with vitamins A and E, as well as silica, to promote skin health and healing. These vitamins are the building blocks of proteins. Proteins are essential for the formation of collagen fiber, which supports the skin and provides elasticity.

Step 4

Ask your dermatologist about drug therapy. Drug treatments in conjunction with topical skin treatments for keloid scars have a higher success rate of healing and preventing recurrence than topical procedures alone. Medications for keloid scar reduction include loratadine and fexofenadine, both of which prevent itching and swelling at the scar site, allowing for proper healing.
