How to Treat Facial Acne From Heat
Acne is formed in hair follicles when bacteria, oil and dead skin cells create a blockage, explains the National Institutes of Health. The most common types of pimples you will see include whiteheads, blackheads, papules and pustules. While the cause of acne is unknown, it is believe that hormones, heredity, medications and greasy makeup are among the top reasons people breakout. While heat is not one of the top factors for irritating or worsening acne, sweat may stimulate the sebaceous glands to produce more oil, according to the Acne Resource Center.
Cleanse your skin after doing exercise, working out or sweating. Washing your skin with soap and water can prevent the production of sebum for up to four hours.
Pat your skin dry with a clean towel. Using a fresh towel will ensure that you're not spreading oils trapped in the towel from previous showers.
Apply 2.5 percent benzoyl peroxide to your skin after taking a shower or washing. Apply the medication to the entire area that breaks out, not just every pimple.
Spot-treat emerging pimples with an alpha hydroxy acid, AHA, like lactic acid or glycolic acid. The website Acne Treatment explains that AHA's prevent cells from bonding and causes the top layer of dead skin cells and dried oil to peel off and shed.
Carry a clean hand towel with you on hot days and when you go to the gym. Pat down your skin when you start to sweat.
Wash your skin with a gentle cleanser containing salicylic acid at the end of the day. Dry sweat won't cause pimples to form, but sweating might contribute to clogged pores.
