How to Treat Dark Spots in Asian Skin
Dark spots on the skin are a very common problem. While dark spots are usually only cosmetic concerns, they should be checked by a doctor to rule out skin cancer or other problems that require medical treatment. However, for dark spots that are not potentially harmful, there are some natural treatments tailored for Asian skin types that can help to get rid of them according to Julia Lawless, author of "The Encyclopedia of Essential Oils: The Complete Guide to the Use of Aromatic Oils in Aromatherapy, Herbalism, Health and Well-Being."
Combine ½ tsp. bergamot essential oil, ½ tsp. lime essential oil, ½ tsp. helichrysum essential oil, ½ tsp. geranium essential oil, ½ tsp. black pepper essential oil, ½ tsp. spikenard essential oil, ½ tsp. eucalyptus essential oil, ¼ tsp. lavender essential oil and 1 cup sesame oil in an amber-colored bottle with a tight-fitting lid.
Cover the bottle and shake it gently for 10 to 15 seconds to combine the essential oils and sesame oil.
Pour a small amount of the essential oil mixture into a small bowl with a cotton pad inside. Allow the cotton to soak up the oil for 1 to 2 minutes before removing it.
Rub the cotton pad gently on the area of skin with dark spots. Let the excess oil that remains on your skin stay on for 20 minutes.
Rinse your skin with cool, clean water. Wash with a very gentle cleanser pat dry with a clean towel before applying a light, oil-free moisturizer.
Use this treatment once per day in the evening only. Stop using the essential oil mixture if it causes any sort of irritation or prolonged redness.
Store unused portions of the mixture in a cool, dark and dry place for up to 90 days. Throw the mixture away after 90 days has passed.
