How to Treat Acne Spots
People get acne for different reasons. Some are genetically predisposed to it; some have sensitive skin that breaks out at the slightest change in weather or diet; and some people get acne caused by stress. Just as there is no one cause for acne, there is also no one-size-fits-all treatment. However, experts agree that following a daily regimen of cleansing, moisturizing, eating right and reducing stress--among other things--is the best way to a clear complexion.
Cleanse your face twice daily with a hypoallergenic, noncomedogenic facial cleanser made for sensitive skin. If it's hypoallergenic, it means it is less likely to contain ingredients that can cause allergies. If it's noncomedogenic, it means it won't clog pores.
Apply a gentle, hypoallergenic toner, like witch hazel, to the skin.
Moisturize with an oil-free, noncomedogenic, hypoallergenic facial lotion immediately after cleansing and toning.
Try a benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid solution applied once or twice daily. You should consult with your doctor on which one is right for your skin.
Use cosmetics that are noncomedogenic, hypoallergenic and free of harsh chemicals that can irritate the skin and cause breakouts.
Eat a diet made of fresh fruits and vegetables, fish and lean meats and whole grains. Avoid fatty foods, sugar and caffeine, all of which can cause acne flare-ups.
Decrease your stress levels by working to resolve conflicts in your personal and professional life. Take the time each day to relax.
See a dermatologist if your acne is severe, or if you cannot resolve it on your own.
