Overview

Acne breakouts are an inflammatory skin condition that causes the skin to not only erupt in unsightly bumps, but to become red and irritated as well. The majority of acne-fighting products on the market contain chemicals that cause side effects, like itching, burning and peeling, which can make acne redness worse. To prevent or reverse acne redness, it is helpful to follow a skin care routine that fights off acne breakouts, while deeply soothing the skin at the same time.

Step 1

Apply an oatmeal compress. In a bowl, combine 1/2 cup of raw ground oats with 1 cup of boiling water. Wait for the oatmeal to cool down, then spread it onto your skin. Drape a steaming washcloth over the oatmeal, and allow the oatmeal compress to remain on the skin for at least 5 minutes. Rinse off the oatmeal with cool water. Repeat two times per day.

Step 2

Apply a lemon juice and aloe vera gel toner. Fill an empty spray bottle with 8 oz. of concentrated lemon juice, and add 1 tsp. of aloe vera gel into it. Shake the mixture well, then spray your skin liberally after applying the oatmeal compress. Allow the skin to dry naturally. Repeat twice per day.

Step 3

Apply calamine lotion to the affected area. Shake a bottle of calamine lotion well to properly combine the ingredients. Soak the end of a cotton swab in the calamine lotion, and apply it to the affected areas of skin. Let the calamine lotion dry, and rinse it off after 1 to 2 hours. Repeat twice per day after toning the skin.
