Overview

Pores are surface openings in the skin that lead to hair follicles and oil-producing glands. Enlarged pores come from a number of sources. Excess oil pools on the skin and collects shed skin cells. The oil and cells sit around the pores and give them a larger appearance. Once the oil moves into the pore, the clog can cause the opening to bulge. According to the website DermaDoctor, you need to focus on unplugging debris, reducing infection, improving skin condition and pulling the pores closed. A nourishing cleaning and some basic exfoliation may be enough to makes pores smaller and less defined.

Step 1

Wash your face, or any area affected with acne, twice a day---once in the morning and again at night. Use a mild cleanser, rinse and splash skin with cold water to stimulate pores to close. Pat skin dry with a clean towel. Moisturize after washing to keep skin supple.

Step 2

Break open one egg and separate the white from the yolk. Squeeze 1/2 lemon over the egg white and beat until the mixture foams. Dip your fingertips into the egg white and spread it thinly over your skin. If applying to your face, do not get the mask in your eyes or nostrils. Let the mask dry and then wash it off. This will stimulate pores to close as well as help exfoliate the skin. Repeat this process once a week.

Step 3

Drink plenty of water. Water is what your body needs to give your skin moisture and a healthy glow. Follow the 8-x-8 rule---eight 8-oz. glasses of water every day.

Step 4

Apply an over-the-counter acne product to areas with an acne breakout. Letting acne sit untreated will spread infection to the surrounding pores. Follow the instructions provided with the product. If the treatment further irritates your skin, discontinue use.

Step 5

Wear a sunscreen when outdoors. Sun damage can cause pores to appear larger. DermaDoctor reports that sun exposure may thicken the epidermis, making enlarged pores more likely. Use a protection product that provides at least 15 SPF.
