How to Stop Underskin Acne

Acne can appear on the skin in many different forms, inducing papules, pustules and cysts. While other forms of acne may clear up relatively quickly, cysts can remain on the skin for weeks or even months longer. In order to fully clear acne cysts, it is necessary to purge the pores of impurities and entrapment, remove dead skin cells from the surface of the skin and spot-treat the acne breakouts with an antimicrobial oil. Following these methods will diminish and clear acne cysts more quickly, allowing the skin to return to its naturally smooth appearance.

Step 1

Purge the pores by applying an oil facial steam. Castor oil is a highly purgative oil that is non-comedogenic, meaning it will not clog or block the pores. Smooth 1 tbsp. of castor oil onto the skin, and use your fingertips to massage in the oil. This will force the castor oil into the pores, allowing it to bind to the clogged oils and impurities. After three to four minutes, lean over a bowl full of nearly boiling water, and drape a towel over your head. This will cause the steam from the water to envelope your face, effectively opening the pores to let the oils and impurities drain out. After five minutes, wipe off the remaining oil using a soft washcloth. Use an oil facial steam once per day.

Step 2

Remove dead skin by applying an exfoliating facial scrub. Exfoliating the skin removes dead skin and impurities that clog and block the pores by gently sloughing them off physically. It is important to only use a natural and gentle exfoliant, such as baking soda, which will buff off pore-blocking impurities without damaging the skin. Pour 1 tbsp. of baking soda into a small bowl, then mix 1 tsp. of water into it, forming a soft paste. Massage the paste onto moistened skin for two minutes, then rinse off with water. Use a baking soda exfoliant up to three times per week.

Step 3

Treat the individual blemishes using diluted tea tree oil. Tea tree oil is as effective as benzoyl peroxide creams, but will not irritate or burn the skin when applied. Since acne cysts are particularly inflamed, benzoyl peroxide creams can exacerbate the condition. Tea tree oil is an antimicrobial oil extracted from the tea tree plant, and must be diluted before it's applied to the skin. Dip a cotton swab into pure tea tree oil, then dip it quickly into and out of water. Spread the diluted tea tree oil onto the acne cysts up to three times per day.
