Overview

Oil is good for your complexion, because it keeps your skin hydrated and flexible. Excessive amounts of oil, however, can make your face look shiny and can contribute to acne breakouts as the oil clogs your pores. A natural way to stop over-production of oil in your skin's pores is to reduce the amount of chemicals you use to cleanse your skin. Chemicals strip your pores of their natural oils and prompt your skin to produce even more oil. You can also cleanse your pores using beneficial oils by using the oil-cleansing method. The key is to allow the oil in your skin to flow, because when it gets blocked, it will cause the pores to swell up and create a pimple or acne breakout, according to Acne.org.

Step 1

Mix together castor oil and olive oil to create a pore-cleansing oil. If your skin is very oily, use up to 30 percent castor oil and 70 percent sunflower seed oil, suggests TheOilCleansingMethod.com. For balanced skin consider using 20 percent castor oil and for dry skin bring it down to 10 percent. Castor Oil will act as a drawing agent that will purge oil from your pores and cleanse them. The Sunflower Seed Oil will nourish your skin and help it maintain a healthy texture. You can substitute the sunflower seed oil with olive, almond or jojoba oil if you already have these or prefer their texture and smell.

Step 2

Rinse your face with warm water and pour your oil blend onto the palms of your hands and rub them together to get the oils warm before you apply them to your face.

Step 3

Massage the warm oil deep into your pores to help cleanse and dissolve any blackheads, pimples and debris already present in your skin. Use gentle, circular motions on your cheeks, chin and forehead and up-and-down motions on your nose. Do this for at least five minutes, focusing on problem areas and using more oil if needed.

Step 4

Soak your washcloth in warm water and hold it over your face until it cools, then wipe your skin to remove the oil from your face. The warm washcloth will help open your pores even more and will help remove the oil and impurities from your pores. Repeat this process until you feel your face is clean from the oil, but do not scrub, as this will irritate your skin.
