How to Smooth Out Large Clogged Pores
Enlarged, clogged pores are generally caused by over-productive sebaceous glands or an excessive buildup of bacteria and oil due to improper cleansing. However, enlarged and clogged pores can occur even without over-productive oil glands and with the best skin care regimen. There are some natural treatments that use essential oils to help get clearer, smaller pores, according to Julia Lawless, author of "The Encyclopedia of Essential Oils: The Complete Guide to The Use of Aromatic Oils In Aromatherapy, Herbalism, Health and Well Being."
Combine the oils in a dark-colored jar or bottle with a tight-fitting lid.
Cover the bottle or jar and shake vigorously for 30 seconds to combine the oils.
Pour a small amount of the oil mixture into a small bowl with a cotton ball inside. Allow the oil to soak into the cotton pad for 60 seconds.
Dab the cotton pad on the skin being treated. Leave the oil that remains on your skin on for 10 to 15 minutes.
Rinse your skin with cool, clean water. Wash with a gentle cleanser and apply your regular moisturizer.
Use this treatment two times per day as necessary. Discontinue use if the oil bothers your skin or causes any irritation, redness or swelling.
Store unused portions of the oil mixture in a cool, dark and dry place for 90 days. Throw the mixture away after 90 days.
