How to Shrink Enlarged Pores
Pores are a natural part of healthy skin, serving as openings through which the hair can grow. When dead skin cells accumulate around the rim of the pores, they can open the pores and increase their appearance. Treating enlarged pores is not difficult and can leave your face looking younger and smoother.
Remove excess dead skin cells from the skin by using a good exfoliant. Pick a product that will not be too rough on the skin, as this can actually cause pores to clog and become inflamed. Follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer, listed on the product, for the best results.
Follow your washing with a skin cream or lotion that contains AHAs (alpha-hydroxy acids) as an active ingredient. AHAs come from fruit and milk and are useful in removing the dead skin cells that have accumulated around the pores. They can help to look and feel more smooth as well as reduce pores. Lotions containing AHAs are found in a variety of lotions and creams available in many major drugstores. For best results, follow the instructions as provided by the manufacturer.
Go to your local spa and get a facial that focuses specifically on reducing pore size. Be sure that the facial technician is one that is certified and is experienced in giving facials.
Choose a makeup that will help, not hinder, your efforts. Choose a water-based foundation and apply it after your moisturizer has dried (oil-based foundation is heavier and build up around the pores, increasing their size and visibility). The best option is to use a powder instead, which is lighter and can minimize pores with a cleaner look.
If enlarged pores continue to be a problem, visit your dermatologist and discuss options that are available to help address your skin care needs.
