Overview

Acne is a skin disease caused by the overproduction of oil, improper shedding of dead skin cells and bacteria, according to MayoClinic.com. When the body produces oil in excess, it pools on the surface of the skin. This pooled oil attracts debris and skin cells that eventually plug hair follicles. The plug traps oil in the follicles leading to pimples, whiteheads and blackheads. Severe acne that is untreated or further aggravated by picking can leave a scar. There is little proof that rubbing tea on an acne scar will help, but tea does have antioxidant benefits. If done correctly, topical tea application should not hurt and may help to reduce inflammation.

Step 1

Brew chamomile or green tea. Follow the instructions provided with the tea to brew properly. Set the brewed tea aside and allow it to cool to room temperature.

Step 2

Wash the affected area with a mild cleanser. Avoid rubbing the skin as this may cause further irritation. Rinse off soap residue and pat the skin dry with a clean towel.

Step 3

Dip your fingertips or a cotton ball into the cooled tea. Dab the tea to the scarred area and allow the tea to dry on the skin. As an alternative and possibly better approach, dip a clean cloth in the tea to make a poultice. Place the poultice on the affected skin and leave it in place for 10 to 15 minutes.

Step 4

Clean the skin a second time with a mild cleanser. Apply any treatments such as creams or moisturizers to skin after washing.
