Overview

Clogged pores appear in a couple different ways. They might be blackheads, which appear as black or brown spots within a pore, or whiteheads, which are your run of the mill, average pimples. Pores get clogged with excess oil, dead skin cells and bacteria. While this is frustrating, there are ways to remove the clogs from your pores and enjoy clear skin once again.

Step 1

Cleanse your skin regularly. Twice a day is plenty to remove oil, dirt and bacteria. Simply work a gentle face wash into a lather then rinse well with warm water. The warmth of the water will open your pores and allow the cleanser to get inside.

Step 2

Soak a cotton ball in a toner and wipe it all over your face. Look for a brand that contains witch hazel for its cleansing and soothing properties. This will unclog your pores and remove dead skin cells and excess oil.

Step 3

Visit your dermatologist's office to have the clogged pore removed. During this procedure, the material within the pore, also known as a comedone, is removed using sterile equipment. A small tool is used to pop the pimple or to force the material that's inside, out.

Step 4

Use only oil-free products on your face. Oily, greasy make up and lotions clog pores and make blemishes worse. Buy brands of sunscreen, moisturizers and makeups that say "oil-free" or "non-comedogenic" on the label to keep your pores unclogged.
