How to Remove Blackheads From Legs
When the body produces too much sebum, an oil that comes out of the pores to lubricate hair and skin, it tends to get trapped in there. When it mixes in with dead skin cells and bacteria, acne is formed. Blackheads form when the pores remain open, and are less noticeable from a distance than their counterpart the whitehead, which rises above the surface of the skin and can result in painful pustules. Although blackheads aren't as noticeable on your legs making it possible to still wear shorts and skirts, you know that they're there. To eliminate them takes little more than a determined effort.
Wrap a towel over your leg and hold it over a bowl of very hot water. You can also fill your bathtub with hot water and hold your legs over it if it's easier. The towel helps to keep the steam in. Steam your legs for at least 10 minutes. While the skin is still softened from the moisture, use a flat blackhead remover which you can purchase at any beauty supply store. Read and follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully for use. Wipe the area with a disinfectant such as an alcohol pad to clean the area and prevent infection.
Wash your legs daily with an antibacterial soap to help keep the area clean. Rinse your legs off well with warm water and pat them dry gently with a soft dry towel to avoid irritation.
Apply an over-the-counter acne medicated cream or topical solution. Choose one that contains salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. Opt for the medication with the lowest percentage of salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide to see how your skin will react before upgrading to something a little stronger. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for use.
Wear pants or long skirts to protect your legs from the sun. Too much sunshine may cause the skin to dry out which will make the area very sensitive and painful. Wear light airy clothing to allow fresh air to get to the skin and if you must wear shorts, use water-based sunscreen to protect your legs.
Cover the affected area of your legs with raw organic honey. Do not heat it up or attempt to cook it first as this will destroy its healing properties. The heat from your hands will be enough to make it pliable. Leave the honey on your legs for 15 to 20 minutes before wiping it away with a soft clean damp cloth. Do this daily to eliminate acne.
