How to Remove Blackheads Easily
Overview
Blackheads, or open comedones, occur when skin pores become clogged with dead skin cells and oil. When the oil becomes exposed to air, it oxidizes and turns a black color. Blackheads are typically caused by excess oil on the face. Hormones, poor cleansing and the use of pore-clogging skin-care products can lead to blackheads. You can usually remove blackheads easily at home. However, you can make an appointment with a dermatologist if you prove unsuccessful.
Step 1
Fill a basin with very hot water. Position your face a few inches above the water and place a towel over the back of your head. Allow the steam to open up the pores for at least five minutes.
Step 2
Take a stainless steel blackhead extractor and position the tip directly on the blackhead. Press the tip down gently onto the skin to squeeze out the blackhead. Use the scoop end of the blackhead extractor to remove any debris leftover after removal. Disinfect both ends of the tool with alcohol before using on other blackheads.
Step 3
Cleanse the face after blackhead removal. Use mild soap that is oil-free to remove any excess oil and dirt on the skin. You should wash your face twice a day to keep the pores clear.
Step 4
Apply a salicylic acid topical acne treatment to the site of the blackheads. After extraction, treat the area with salicylic acid for seven to 14 days. This helps slough off any dead skin cells that can still be blocking the pores.
