How to Remove Blackhead Blemishes
Blackheads are a form of acne also called open comedones. They are caused by excess oils produced by the sebaceous glands. The oils become lodged in the pores of the skin and when the oil is exposed to oxygen, the color blackens. Blackheads are a common occurrence during periods of hormonal changes, like puberty. Failure to rid the skin of oil and dirt can also cause blackheads. If you are unable to get rid of the blackheads on your own, you can speak to a dermatologist about treatment options.
Fill a bowl with boiling water. Place a towel over your head and position your head over the bow of water. Stay here for five minutes to prepare the skin to get rid of the blackheads.
Use a blackhead extraction product. There are pore strips that you can place over the blemishes to remove them. A brand example is Biore Pore Strips.
Wet the skin. Peel away the pore strip and apply the adhesive end to the area of the skin that contains the blackheads. Leave the pore strip on the skin for several minutes to allow it to dry.
Peel away the pore strip. When examining the pore strip, you'll likely see dirt and oil buildup that has been removed. Discard the pore strip.
Cleanse the skin. After extraction, use a facial cleanser that treats blackheads. The cleanser should contain either salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide, two acne-fighting ingredients. The blackhead cleanser will have exfoliating properties that can help slough off any excess oil that is left behind after using the pore strips. Use the face wash on a daily basis. Brands that you can try include Noxzema Triple Clean Blackhead Cleanser and Neutrogena Skin Clearing Blackhead Cleanser.
