Overview

Blackheads on your ear occur the same way they do on your face. Sweat, body oil, dirt and skin cells get trapped in one of your pores and that impaction causes a blackhead, according to the Mayo Clinic's website. Talking on the phone, habitually sleeping on one side or resting your ear in your hand regularly can help lodge blackhead-causing materials in your pores. Superficial blackheads can often be easily scrubbed away with an exfoliant, but sunken blackheads may require more aggressive treatment using a pimple extractor. Popping blackheads in this manner can cause scarring and infection, so dislodge the blackhead gently and only if traditional cleansing treatments fail.

Step 1

Place the pimple extractor in a pan of boiling water for at least five minutes to skill bacteria, recommends beauty website Daily Glow.

Step 2

Wash your ear with mild soap and warm water while your extractor sterilizes.

Step 3

Turn off the burner. Remove the extractor from the boiling water with tongs and set it on a clean, dry surface to cool. Save the boiled water.

Step 4

Hold your ear in the steam above the pot to help open your pores and loosen the clog. Stand at least 12 inches over the pot to avoid burns. Steam your pores open for about five minutes.

Step 5

Place a loop extractor on your skin so that your blackhead lies directly in the center of the loop. Press down gently until the material trapped in your pore flows out.

Step 6

Wipe away the contents of the blackhead and wash the ear again with soap and warm water. Pat dry. Apply antibacterial ointment to the area to prevent an infection.
