How to Reduce Redness and Acne Scars
Acne scars form just like other scars do. The prominence and severity is dependent on a number of factors such as depth of wound, age and genetics. PIH, or post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation, is a dark skin spot that may develop after acne has healed. An acne scar might form if the PIH does not fade.
Acne scars form in either raised or depressed shapes. Raised growths of scar tissue are called keloids. The depressed acne scars create either pitted or saucer like impressions, which can give an overall uneven appearance, notes website AcneNet.
Place some pineapple pieces in a blender. Cut lemon into halves and squeeze out all the juice into the blender with the pineapple. Blend until pureed. Pour into a dish or bowl.
Mix 2 tbsp. of filtered water with 1 tbsp. of baking soda. Stir until a paste is formed.
Apply the fruit puree. Massage into the acne-scarred area. The lemon juice has natural bleaching properties to fade the redness while the pineapple has ascorbic acid to brighten skin tone and fade the scarring. The acidic content of the two fruits will also act as an exfoliant. Leave on for 10 to 15 minutes before rinsing.
Gently rub the baking soda paste into the skin. Continue in circular motions for approximately 60 seconds and then rinse off. This acts as a home-made microdermabrasion treatment, which is a technique used by skin care clinics. It involves the erosion of skin blemishes by using a tool that blasts a fine mist of sand crystals onto the target area.
Pour a pea-sized amount of olive oil into your hand and massage it into the the exfoliated areas. Acne scarring and exfoliants can dry the skin and cause it to lose some elasticity. The olive oil will seep deeply into the skin and help moisturize and soften it.
