Overview

Your skin is your body's largest organ, making up 15 percent of your body weight. According to National Geographic, the skin is made up of three layers: the epidermis--the uppermost layer, the dermis--the secondary layer and the sub-dermis, which lies beneath. Pores cover the surface of the body and help the body regulate temperature. Open pores on the face are not uncommon, but several methods can be used to get rid of them.

Step 1

Use exfoliating products. Daily Glow recommends using an exfoliating product on a regular basis. Exfoliating scrubs and cleansers help to remove dead skin cells from the skin's surface, which can reduce the chance of open pores and the pore blockage that leads to blackheads. Several exfoliating products can be used on the face. These include exfoliating scrubs, which are a form of liquid soap containing sugar, sea salt, finely ground peach pits or walnut hulls that gently scrub the dead cells from the skin. An exfoliating cleanser is gentler than an exfoliating scrub and can be used more frequently than scrubs.

Step 2

Consider microdermabrasion, a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that enhances the skin, reducing open pores, fine wrinkles, minor scars, age spots and fine stretch marks. According to Skin Abrasion, this type of procedure has many benefits, including being less expensive than cosmetic surgery. You can use a microdermabrasion kit at home, it causes no pain, it works with all skin types and it helps skin look healthier and younger. Simply apply the micro-crystal cream to your face using your fingers. Cover the whole face with the cream then rinse off and pat dry with a towel. Apply the moisturizing cream that comes with the kit. You should notice effects immediately.

Step 3

Use your make-up to conceal open pores while you are working on curing them. Daily Glow recommends using light mineral powders, foundation and concealers. Before you go to bed each night, use a cleanser to remove all traces of make-up to prevent your pores from becoming blocked and causing blackheads or acne.
