How to Reduce Pimple Scarring
Acne is an inflammatory condition that causes pimples to erupt on your face and neck. This alone can cause embarrassment and self-consciousness. However, the after effects such as scarring can be just as devastating. Those who suffer moderate to severe acne tend to have the most significant scars after the nodules have cleared up. Thanks to modern technology, there are plenty of methods to help eliminate or reduce the appearance of pimple scars.
Exfoliate your skin at least once or twice a week. This removes the top layers of skin to help smooth out scars. Use natural ingredients like lemon juice or baking soda mixed with water or an over-the-counter exfoliant with hydroxy acids. Regular exfoliation will slough away those dead skin cells to reveal fresher skin.
Wear sunblock daily to prevent further scarring. Sun exposure can lead to further skin damage and hamper its ability to heal properly. Wear a foundation, lotion or sunscreen with at least SPF 15 as this will promote quicker scar healing.
Ask your dermatologist about dermabrasion. This is where a rotary sanding instrument is placed over affected skin to remove the top skin layers. This is a dramatic procedure and usually only has to be done once to be effective. You may experience redness or swelling for a few weeks after treatment, but the end result is fresh, new skin.
Use laser resurfacing to treat damaged skin. This is where a laser beam is scanned over scarred areas to burn away top skin layers. Once it has regenerated, it presents itself in a fresher, more youthful look.
Apply bleaching cream to pimple scars. The affected areas are usually darker when compared to the rest of your skin. Bleach can lighten and reduce this darkness and provide a better appearance.
