How to Reduce Back Acne How to Reduce Back Acne

Overview

Acne can occur anywhere on your body, including the face, neck, chest and back. When acne appears on your back, it can be difficult to treat it due to its location. Luckily, it is possible to treat back acne by utilizing a back scratcher to apply a cleanser, a medicated acne cream and a non-comedogenic moisturizer. By following a twice-daily routine that incorporates all three of these steps, your back acne can be significantly reduced and eliminated.

Step 1

Cleanse your back with a soap designed for sensitive-skin types. Most commercial soaps contain harsh chemical ingredients that can exacerbate acne breakouts on the back. Using a sensitive-skin soap will clean your skin without irritating it. Attach a washcloth to the end of a back scratcher using a rubber band, and wet it thoroughly. Lather the washcloth with the sensitive-skin soap, and lather your back. Spread the lather around your back without scrubbing or rubbing, then rinse off your back completely with water. Repeat twice per day.

Step 2

Medicate your back acne by applying a low-strength benzoyl peroxide cream, no higher than 2.5 percent. Higher concentrations of benzoyl peroxide cream can burn or irritate your skin, and should be avoided. Attach a washcloth to the end of a back scratcher with a rubber band, and squeeze a quarter-size amount of 2.5 percent benzoyl peroxide cream onto the washcloth. Gently spread the benzoyl peroxide cream around your back until it has been completely absorbed into your skin. Repeat twice per day after cleansing your back with a sensitive-skin soap.

Step 3

Moisturize your back by applying an oil-free lotion that will not clog your pores. Using an oil-free moisturizing lotion will keep your back properly hydrated, and will prevent your skin from becoming overly dried out from the benzoyl peroxide cream. Attach a washcloth to the end of the back scratcher using a rubber band, and squeeze a quarter-size amount of oil-free lotion onto the washcloth. Smooth the lotion onto your back until it has soaked into your skin. Repeat twice per day after medicating your back with benzoyl peroxide cream.
