How to Reduce Acne Inflammation
Acne is a common skin condition normally caused by hormone fluctuations and excessive oil in the skin. The skin's pores become clogged by bacteria, dirt and oil, causing pimples and blemishes to arise. Acne-prone skin tends to go through the clogging-and-pimples phase more often than normal skin. The inflammation associated with acne can range from mildly aggravating to painful, but can be treated with the right skin care routine.
Wash your face daily using an antibacterial face wash. Antibacterial washes also offer exfoliation, playing a dual role in acne treatment. They kill bacteria and remove dead skin cells from skin pores, thereby reducing inflammation and redness.
Apply facial creams or moisturizers that contain salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide. This will kill bacteria and slow the skin's cell shedding, keeping your pores clearer and minimizing acne breakouts. Face creams will also provide a soothing effect to reduce inflammation and any discomfort.
Take daily vitamin A, E and zinc supplements. These supplements promote clearer skin and inhibit overproduction of oil in the skin. Vitamins A and E also have antibacterial properties that will kill bacteria that clog pores and produce swelling.
Eat foods rich in Omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids are natural anti-inflammatories found in fish and certain legumes and beans.
Apply witch hazel, calendula or licorice root to the inflamed area. These herbs are excellent anti-inflammatories and antibacterials, killing germs and reducing the swelling and pain associated with blemishes.
Apply a small dot of fluoride toothpaste to individual blemishes. Fluoride dries blemishes and reduces redness and inflammation, providing a soothing relief.
