How to Really Get Rid of Blackheads
Blackheads, a type of acne, are open pores which have become blocked with a soft plug of oil, dirt and dead skin. This clogging happens when the sebaceous glands under the skin produce excess amounts of sebum oil. This sebum then blocks up the hair follicles as the skin becomes drenched in oil. The tip of this oily plug oxidizes in the air and turns blackish in color, notes Medical News Today
Medical evidence suggests that the main causes of acne are hormonal changes and imbalances. Hoever, popular opinion holds that poor diet and lifestyle are the causes.
Bring a pot or kettle of water to the boil. Place a blackhead remover lancet in a dish of rubbing alcohol. This is for sterilization. Remover tools are easily available at most drugstores.
Surface cleanse the blackhead area. Use an over-the-counter cleansing wipe or lotion which contains salicylic acid. This solution will help to remove all surface dirt and oil and help to loosen the blackhead plugs.
Pour hot water into a bowl and place on a sturdy surface to steam your blackhead area. If this is the face, drape a towel over your head and lean over the hot water. Use the towel to trap the steam for five to 10 minutes. The steaming will help to open the pores and loosen the oily plugs.
Place the loop end of the sterilized remover over a blackhead. The blackhead should now be showing through the middle of the metal loop. Push down. A gentle push will ease out the soft oily plug from the pore. Repeat this on your other blocked pores.
Use a benzoyl peroxide-containing facial wash for a deep cleaning of the pores. This will kill residue bacteria and remove remaining oil and dirt. Wash this solution off with cold water and then moisturize.
