Overview

When pores become clogged with sebum, oils and impurities, the skin may appear sallow and unhealthy, leading to blackheads and acne breakouts. When the pores are opened and flushed out, blockages can be drained, reducing skin eruptions. To flush out the pores and keep the skin clear, a pore-opening facial should be applied that flushes out the pores, scrubs away dead skin cells and tones the skin.

Step 1

Apply an oil facial using a non-comedogenic oil (meaning it will not clog or block the pores), such as castor oil. Castor oil bonds to the sebum, oils and bacteria in your pores, allowing them to be drained out more effectively than soap. Spread 1 to 2 tsp. of castor oil onto your skin, and massage it in deeply with your fingers. After two to three minutes, drape a steaming hot washcloth onto your face, pressing it in to allow the heat and steam to cover the skin. Once the washcloth cools, use it to wipe off the oil. Repeat once per day.

Step 2

Scrub away dead skin that blocks the pores using a natural exfoliant, like baking soda. Pour 1 tbsp. of baking soda into your hand, and mix 1 tsp. of water into it. Spread the baking soda paste onto your skin, and use your fingers to massage it onto your skin. After one to two minutes, rinse off your skin with warm water. Repeat once per day.

Step 3

Apply a compress high in vitamin C, such as lemon juice, which helps increase skin cell turnover to keep the pores clear. Soak five to six cotton pads in concentrated lemon juice, and place them onto your skin, focusing on the areas that are the most affected by clogged pores. Leave the pads on your skin for at least 10 minutes, then remove them to let the skin air dry. Repeat up to three times per day.
