How to Make Homemade Masks to Tighten Large Pores
Overview
Fresh, clear skin with tight pores can be an asset to your appearance and confidence. According to "Discovery Health," facial skin is host to thousands of pores, which act as exit routes for your hair follicles, sweat glands and oil glands. Pores tend to enlarge as you age, starting at puberty when producing excess oil begins. Dermatology specialists report it's not possible to permanently shrink large pores, but there are steps you can take to help them appear smaller. You can make several masks at home with natural ingredients you probably have in your kitchen. You may tighten your pores while also saving money by avoiding expensive spas and pricey retail products.
Almond Mask
Step 1
Soak 1 cup of unsalted almonds in 2 cups warm water for four hours, stirring occasionally, strain water and then pat almonds dry. Blanched almonds are ideal, though usually a bit more expensive.
Step 2
Mash almonds between two pieces of plastic wrap or waxed paper with a meat tenderizer or hammer until they can form a paste or, if you own a food processor, blend almonds into a paste consistency.
Step 3
Add 2 tsp. of fresh lemon juice--not concentrate, stirring thoroughly to keep paste texture.
Step 4
Apply the mask to your face, careful to avoid the eye area. Recline and relax for 20 to 30 minutes. Wash off mask with warm water, followed by cool rinse. Hot water helps pores to open and cold water helps to close them. Use this mask once a week.
Cucumber Mask
Step 1
Crush 1 peeled cucumber in a food processor or blender. Be careful to strain all excess liquid from the mixture.
Step 2
Squeeze the juice from 1 fresh lemon and measure 1/4 tsp. Add to the cucumber mixture.
Step 3
Add 1 tsp. of rose water, which you can find at most natural beauty supply stores or online, and mix thoroughly.
Step 4
Wet a washcloth with very warm water and wring it out completely. Place the cucumber mixture on your face and immediately recline. Carefully put the warm washcloth over your entire face and press gently onto cucumber mixture and your skin. Relax for 20 minutes. Wash off with warm water, then follow with a cool rinse.
