Overview

Acne bumps can effect people of all ages but are most profuse in those experiencing a surge in hormone levels as seen during puberty. While many people can clear their skin with a minimum amount of effort, sometime the skin will continue to produce acne breakouts. In order to treat the skin so that it becomes clear and remains that way, it is necessary to follow a routine that cleanses the skin correctly, medicates the skin properly and moisturizes the skin deeply.

Step 1

Cleanse the skin correctly using a soaps designed for people with sensitive skin. Wet the skin thoroughly and lather it well using a sensitive skin soap or cleanser. Use a gentle touch to spread the soap around the skin. Do not scrub or rub the face, which can make the acne bumps become worse and can irritate the skin. Rinse off the lather well with water and repeat twice per day. Using a sensitive skin soap will clean the skin without irritating or inflaming it with the harsh chemicals that are found in soaps designed for acne-prone or oily skin.

Step 2

Medicate the skin properly using a 2.5% concentration benzoyl peroxide cream. Squeeze an amount of 2.5% benzoyl peroxide cream roughly the size of a large pea onto the fingers and spread the cream onto the face. Use the fingertips to glide the cream around the face until it has been absorbed completely into the skin. Repeat two times per day after cleansing the skin. Many people mistakenly think that they need to use a higher strength benzoyl peroxide cream to clear their acne bumps. this can cause the skin to become red, to peel and even to produce a minor chemical burn. Use only the 2.5% benzoyl peroxide cream or one of a lower strength.

Step 3

Moisturize the skin deeply using an oil-free moisturizer. Squeeze an amount of oil-free moisturizer onto the fingers roughly the size of a dime. Smooth the moisturizer onto the face gently using the fingers and gently massage it in until it has been absorbed. Repeat every time after using the benzoyl peroxide cream. Benzoyl peroxide cream in any strength can be drying on the skin, so using an oil-free moisturizer will keep the skin hydrated without clogging the skin with comedogenic oils.
