How to Improve Skin Acne
Acne is a skin condition that results when the pores become blocked with oil, dirt and dead skin cells. Your skin-care habits also affect your acne. For example, if you do not wash your face enough, you may be leaving excess oil and dirt on the skin. To reduce acne symptoms, change your daily skin-care routine to reduce pore-clogging substances.
Wash your face with a gentle cleanser in the morning, according to the Palo Alto Medical Foundation. Cleanse all areas of skin on the face--forehead, sides of the head, chin, cheeks and nose. Rinse with warm water.
Apply an acne treatment product, such as one that contains benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, to any acne blemishes. Dab it on the blemish and the area slightly surrounding it. These products help remove bacteria, oil and other substances that clog the pores, according to the American Academy of Dermatologists.
Apply an oil-free moisturizer that contains a sun-protection factor of 15 or more. Because acne treatment creams can be drying to the skin, applying a moisturizer can help reduce irritation. Be sure the product is labeled non-comedogenic or water-based--this means that it will not clog the pores, according to the Mayo Clinic. Look for this label on any makeup products as well.
Wash the skin again at night and repeat the application of an acne treatment cream. Washing your face at night will help remove makeup, oil and bacteria that may have collected on the skin throughout the day.
Use an exfoliating scrub once per week to remove excess skin cells and oil that can clog the skin. Use the scrub only once per week--using it more could strip the skin of natural, healthy oils. This can lead the skin to produce more oil.
